Hearing Voices

So before I get to the body of this article, I’ll give a quick heads up of where I am with Call of Duty World War 2!
This is where I sit at the moment: level 22 with a social rank of 2. You can’t really see it in this pic but I also did a preliminary design for my own ‘JuRM69’ Emblem instead of using one of the ones provided or one in a supply drop. You’ll also see there that I have the Clantag of ‘OMAC’: many years ago, DC comics had an amazing comic, written and drawn by the co-creator of the Marvel Universe Jack Kirby, about a character called OMAC, which stands for ‘One Man Army Corps’. Until I join a clan, I use this just as a bit of a joke.

…and this is one of the reasons. I have Prestiged the assault rifle called the M1941, and the reward for prestiging it is getting your clantag printed on a part of the weapon… so I thought I’d better get a clan tag happening!

On to what I really wanted to talk about though…

Whilst playing Wolfenstein I was really interested in the voice acting as it’s really REALLY good. Grace, the Resistance member, sounds so much like a Pam Grier styled 70s ass-kicker that I decided I should look and see who played some of the voices in the game.

The main character BJ’s voice resonated with me, and I realised it was Brian Bloom, who also plays Captain America in Marvel VS Capcom Infinite Warfare and was Keegan in Call of Duty Ghosts.

It ends up that Grace is played by Debra Wilson who was also Rebecca in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, but I knew I knew her voice the second I saw her face as she was the character Apocalypta in a movie that stars a whole pile of boy band singers as tough zombie fighters called Dead 7.

The real surprise for me, though, was seeing the name Michelle Forbes as Zofia Blazkowisz! Forbes has been in a heap of Tv shows, but for me, I will forever remember her as Ensign Ro from Star Trek The Next Generation, and I’ve had the hots for her ever since!

Other names that turn up are Rob Zombie’s Halloween’s Kristina Klebe, the A-Team’s Dwight Schultz, and Mark Ivanir, who FPSers will know as Kamarov from Modern Warfare 3 and Solomon from Battlefield 3!

This, of course, made me wonder who will be in the new Call of Duty!

Previously the franchise, either in the campaign or in the ‘Zombies’ bit, has had stars like Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Neil McDonough, Elvira, David Hasselhoff, Kevin Spacey, Pee Wee Herman (as Paul Ruebens), Ron Perlman, Kate Sackhoff, Robert Picardo, Alan Tudyk, Claudia Christian, Claudia Black, Kit Harrington, Craig Fairbrass… heck, even the UFC’s Conor McGregor!!

Who is in the line up for this year though? That’s the question!

Well, I’ve obviously not played the campaign yet, and have only had a couple of attempts at Nazi Zombies but names that have appeared on IMBD include, so far, Transformers’ Josh Duhamel, Flesh for Frankenstein’s (and horror legend) Udo Kier, Doctor Who and Jessica Jones’ David Tennant,

Pulp Fiction’s Ving Rhames,

Vikings’ Katheryn Winnick (who was also in Bones),

Daredevil’s Elodie Yung

and many others, with more to appear in DLC if the blank spaces in the character choice screen are anything to go by.

I guess more names will be revealed after the game has been released but that’s a pretty exciting line up so far!

Also in the FPS world, a new character and a new environment have been announced for Overwatch at this year’s Blizzcon!

Moira, according to her official release, has the following abilities:

BIOTIC GRASP: Using her left hand, Moira expends biotic energy to heal allies in front of her. Her right hand fires a long-range beam weapon that saps enemies’ health, healing Moira and replenishing her biotic energy.

BIOTIC ORB: Moira launches a rebounding biotic sphere; she can choose between a regeneration effect that heals the allies it passes through, or a decay effect that deals damage to enemies.

FADE: Moira quickly teleports a short distance.

COALESCENCE: Moira channels a long-range beam that both heals allies and bypasses barriers to damage her enemies.

She sounds like the anti-Mercy!

Also the new environment is called Blizzardworld and features a whole pile of Blizzard IPs in a theme park looking environment:

Grabbed a Nintendo Switch today so I’ll no doubt be chatting about that soon… especially when I grab Splatoon 2!
